on September 27, 1982. There are no witnesses but neighbors claimed to have heard some

Official version alleged the three youths died in "armed encounter" with
GAL death squads on January 15, 986. The bodies were found in the

apparently fired at close range. A third body was found hidden behind a fence.

The official version claimed an exchange of fire but witnesses
alleged Kastresana was finished off on the floor by the police when he was
wounded and already reduced. Autopsy revealed that the gun shots
which caused his death had been fired at close range.
MANU URIONABARRENETXEA AND JUAN OIARBIDE
Died in a Civil Guard ambush near Irun on September 16, 1989. The official
version claimed Urionabarrenetxea and Oiarbide had fired the first shots and
the civil guards had no other choice but to repel the aggression.
SUSANA ARREGI AND JON LIZARRALDE
Their bodies were found between the 25 and 26 of June, 1990. The official version claimed that an exchange of gunfire occurred in the Foz de Lumbier in Navarre between members of ETA and the security forces. One civil guard was killed and another wounded. Two members of ETA were later found dead (Arregi and Lizarralde) and a third (German Rubenach) was seriously wounded. The Spanish ministry of interior stated the next day that ETA members had apparently committed suicide to avoid taken alive and that the third member of the group had tried to kill himself, but failed. Doubt was thrown on this explanation by reports that one of the dead, Arregi, had been shot twice on the side of her head and the other had substantial quantities of water in his body.
MIKEL CASTILLO
A shot on his back fired by the police caused his death on September 18, 1990,
when he attempted to escape from the police in Iruñea (Navarre).
The first official report claimed he had died in an "armed encounter" but
he was reportedly unarmed. Lawyers acting for the family claimed that
the security forces had killed him illegally.
JOAN CARLES MONTEAGUT AND JON EREZUMA
Gunned-down inside a home by the Civil Guard in Lliça d'Amunt (Catalunya) on
May 20, 1996. Autopsy revealed that Erezuma bled to death and the seven gun shots
on Moneagut's body were fired from a short distance.
JOKIN LEUNDA AND IÑAKI ORMAETXEA, AND PATXI IRIZAR
Shot and killed inside a home during a Civil Guard operation in Donostia (Gipuzkoa)
on August 17, 1991. Autopsy revealed that Irizar had only one
shot in his body located in the temple. The bodies of Leunda and
Ormaetxea presented numerous gun shots, and in each case, the gun shots
that caused their death had been fired from very short distance.
JUAN MARI ORMAZABAL
Killed in a ambush by the regional police of Bascongadas in Bilbo on
August 29, 1991. Autopsy revealed three gun shots, one in the leg, another in
the hip, and the third one in the head, all fired from a distace of 25

A witness said civilguardsmen "were waiting a long time in the truck parked in front of the Anaiak Restaurant, right in front where they were killed." Another witness said that "several policemen in civilian clothes and wearing bullet proof vests came out of a gray Mercedes truck with Donostia plates and immediately began to fire at the them [the two Basque activists]." A woman who witnessed the killing said that one of the victims screamed "Don't please," but that the police "went after him."
